After extending its winning streak to a season-best six games, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men’s basketball team jumped up six spots to the No. 6 position in the latest NABC Division II Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
The Chargers were ranked 12th a week ago, and the No. 6 spot marks the highest the team has been since beginning the season ranked second in the country.

The Chargers have a pair of home games this week as West Alabama visits Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. contest before West Georgia travels to Huntsville for a 7 p.m. showdown on Saturday. (Courtesy of UAHChargers.com)

There’s video evidence to back up greatness of UAH’s Smith

In front of a packed house in Florence, AL we defeated the UNA Lions 84-77.  It was a huge win for us on the road as North Alabama played very well but we were able to come out with the victory in a back in forth game. Highlights from Delta State and CBU Games

UAH men’s basketball player Josh Magette etched his name into the Gulf South Conference record book on Sunday, becoming the league’s all-time leader in assists while breaking a mark that had stood for 33 years. The senior registered 10 on the day to give him 745 for his career.

The preseason All-American surpasses the old number of 737 that was set by Sonny Charpentier of Nichols State who amassed his total during a stretch from 1975-79.

“I’m real happy for him,” said Head Coach Lennie Acuff. “He’s been a great player since the day he walked on our campus, and to break a record that’s been there for 30-something years and 50-something years of Gulf South basketball, it’s a real credit to him and it’s a real credit to his teammates.”

The senior from Birmingham, Ala. also became the only player in GSC history to own at least 1,000 points, 700 assists, and 500 rebounds.

“It’s a great honor,” Magette said. “I know how many good point guards have come through this conference – especially here at UAH – and to not only be the leader at UAH but in the conference is just special.” (Courtesy of UAHChargers.com)

On Sunday afternoon we defeated the #11th ranked Christian Brothers 74-65 in front of a packed Spragins Hall. The win takes us to 5-1 in the GSC and 14-3 Overall, we also stopped Christian Brothers 10 game winning streak! Zane Campbell led the way with 23 points and Josh Magette recorded a Triple Double in the win. Thanks to everyone who came out to support our program it was such a great environment. For the second time this season, UAH men’s basketball player Josh Magette has been selected as the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The honor marks the third of the decorated player’s career.

In a pair of GSC wins for his squad, the Birmingham, Ala., native averaged a double-double with 20.5 points and 10 assists while adding 3.5 rebounds in an average of 35 minutes per contest. With his performances last week, Magette became the first player in GSC history to record 1,000 points, 700 assists and 500 rebounds for a career.

In front a a great home crowd last night we were able to defeat Valdosta State 86-72. Earning a victory against Valdosta in our first GSC Home game takes us to (11-3) Overall and (2-1) in the GSC. We have a huge GSC Home game tomorrow night at 7:00 PM as The University of West Florida comes to town. We need a packed house to help us defeat UWF!
